It looks like we are going to spend the remainder of 2020 social distancing. While we anticipate a new year of overcoming this pandemic in 2021, Raining Kate’s wants to remind our customers we are still here for you in 2020. We are continuing to take extra precautions on site with our customers, while also taking extra precautions when we are not on the job. That means extra PPE, additional measures for disinfecting restoration equipment after each job, and asking that our customers wear masks while we are onsite.
For a variety of reasons, many of our customers are requesting to rent water damage restoration equipment so they can attempt work themselves. We are now offering a service offering all the tools you need in addition to professional guidance by an IICRC certified technician. Read More
Even in Texas we experience freezing temperatures a few times a year. Any time temperatures drop below 32 degrees there are a few things you should do to prevent damage at you home or commercial property.
Open your cold water faucets to allow them to drip, even just a trickle. Running water through the pipe keeps it from freezing. Open up your cabin doors under sinks adjacent to outside walls. It might be annoying, or you might feel like you are wasting water…but the freeze will pass! What you don’t want, I promise you, is a very expensive restoration job after a pipe burst and sends inches of standing water throughout your home or business.
Wrap Exposed Pipes – Locate Water Shut Off Valve
Be sure to wrap any pipes outside that are exposed or inside that are not in heated areas (such as a garage). If you have a washing machine in an unheated garage, shut off the water to the machine. Disconnect garden hoses and insulate with Styrofoam covers. Covers for pipes and outside faucets can be found at your local hardware store. Most importantly, locate your water shut off valve and make sure you know how to turn it off. In the event that a pipe does burst, shutting off the water to your property will be the first thing you do to stop the water. Once the water is off, call the experts at RAINING KATE’S. We will cleanup the mess and get your home or business back to normal!

After last years freeze, I think everyone in Texas understands the importance of being prepared for freezing temperatures this winter. Here are some quick reminders! Remember to pay special attention to those pipes on outside walls that have the most exposure to the cold outside!
If you believe you have a frozen pipe that has not burst, use heat to attempt to thaw. A space heater or hair dryer can be used for this. Keep faucets open so that water can drain.
